Pet Peeve #19: "They were awesome until they got popular"

Disclaimer: After the extensive popularity of my last blog entry I've been answering fan mail for the last month. Blogs that highlight current popular and topical artists like Vanessa Carlton are always going to delay frequent updates on here. But writing things that resonate with people is what matters to me most, so thank you for dealing with the delays.

So here I come to my actual blog topic for today, people who think this way:

Dude, I hate when a band or artist I really enjoy becomes popular and mainstream? It makes me want to say "they used to be awesome until they got popular"? Once a band is popular even the songs I once liked by them are no longer good.

If I know about a band before anyone else has heard them, then I am inherently cooler. I knew about (insert mainstream group) LONG before you. Now that everyone is listening I hate said mainstream band. Haven't you heard that the more people that know about a band the less cool it is?

God forbid a group actually want to get paid for what they do. And god forbid their greatness be recognized and a lot of people enjoy the music, and they have sold out concerts and get played on the radio. That sucks.
